Ondo guber: Suspected thugs vandalise Jimoh Ibrahim’s campaign office

The newly opened campaign office of the factional governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Dr. Jimoh Ibrahim, was the late Saturday attacked by suspected political thugs.
The office, which was opened last week, is located along Oyemekun Road, Akure, the state capital.
All the PDP flags at the office, representing the 18 local government areas of the state and the country, were pulled down.
Also, a big banner bearing the picture of the fictional PDP candidate was pulled off the wall of the one-storey office.
The Director of Publicity of Jimoh Ibrahim Campaign, Sola Akinuli, condemned the attack, describing it as unfortunate.
He said: “It was much unexpected from any quarter that such a barbaric act should rear its head in 2016 when we thought all acts of hooliganism have been thrown into dustbin.
“We are, therefore, calling on security agencies to take over the matter in order to forestall future occurrences. On peace we stand and that we plead from all quarters.”
Some people who saw the vandalism of the office also condemned the act expressing worries that the act may signal the commencement of thuggery in the state as political parties start campaign for the election.

Ikimi: PDP now more positioned to sack Oshiomhole and his APC in Edo

Former Foreign Affairs Minister and member Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tom Ikimi, Sunday expressed optimism that the opposition party will win the governorship election in the state, irrespective of the postponement by the INEC.
He said the party will garner massive votes to crippled and shock the ruling APC magnitude of votes and its leadership cannot contemplate contesting the outcome of the exercise on September 28.

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has said his ambition is not worth the blood of anyone.
Obaseki said though he was disappointed with the postponement of the governorship election, he would rather drop his governorship ambition than to have hoodlums hijack the election and shed the blood of innocent citizens.
He explained that he had no option but to accept the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission to shift the election from September 10 to September 28, 2016, based on security report by the police.

The Peoples Democratic Party has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop blaming past governments and face governance squarely.
It reminded President Buhari and his party, the All Progressives Congress, that they were elected to better the lots of Nigeria and not to be blaming past governments every time.
The PDP stated this in its Eid-El-Kabir message to Nigerians, which was signed by its spokesperson, Dayo Adeyeye, and made available to journalists in Abuja on Sunday.

Edo guber: Allegation on registration of 8,000 militants baseless – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party has described the allegation by Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State that it registered 8,000 militants for the forthcoming election in the state as wild.
This was contained in a statement signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, on Saturday in Abuja.
Adeyeye said in the statement that the allegation was not only wiild, but totally unreasonable and baseless.
He said: “In the first instance, we wish to ask Governor Oshiomhole the following pertinent questions: where and when did the PDP register the so called militants?
“Were they registered by INEC? If not which organisation registered them? Were they registered as voters or as Observers?

KOWA party candidate laments lack of funds, backs PDP for Edo guber poll



The governorship candidate of KOWA party in Edo State Thompson Osadolor, says he cannot sustain another two weeks of campaign and will now support the Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the election.
Osadolor told the News Agency of Nigeria in Benin on Saturday that his party lacked the financial muscle to embark on campaign for another two weeks.
He, however, said he was not withdrawing from the race, but that his party would support the candidate of the PDP, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, for the poll.
He said: “I and my party have put in a lot financially and time to campaign across the nook and cranny of the state these past weeks.
“Through this rigorous campaign, the people have come to identify with us, from a party that was not popular in the state to one of the leading parties.

Edo guber: Oshiomhole, APC plan to replace trained NYSC members with APC loyalists – PDP

APC stakeholders in Bonny call on FG to secure its waterways




All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers, have called on the Federal Government to deploy security agents and secure its waterways.
APC leader in the local government, Mr George Tolofari, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bonny on Saturday.
According to him, the waterways leading to the kingdom is not safe.

KOWA Party expels Edo guber candidate for endorsing PDP’s Ize-Iyamu




The candidate of the KOWA Party in the postponed Edo State governorship poll, Thompson Osadolor, has been expelled by his party for endorsing the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Pastor Ize-Iyamu.
Osadolor had on Saturday announced his withdrawal from contesting the election hinging his decision on the postponement by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He said, “I am not satisfied with the postponement of the election. They (INEC) knew that we would win the election; that was why they postponed it.
“Having done that, they have destabilised us. That is one of the reasons we withdrew.”
Osadolor, however, endorsed the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and urged KOWA supporters to cast their votes for him.
According to him, the PDP is a better alternative because there are similarities in the manifestoes of both parties.

Edo guber: Wike, APC bicker over support for PDP’s Ize-Iyamu

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and the state’s chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are locked in a bicker over his support for the Edo State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
Wike dismissed reports that he backed Ize-Iyamu with a N2 billion donation, saying all he gave was moral support.
He vowed to continue to support democratic forces, not just in the Niger Delta, but across Nigeria, to bring better life to people of the country.
But the APC in the state said Wike has been a pillar of financial backing for Ize-Iyamu.

Edo guber: APC raises the alarm over ‘fake’ Benin palace chiefs

The All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday alerted local communities in Edo State to beware of fake chiefs masquerading as Benin chiefs from the palace of the Oba of Benin, spreading falsehood that the Oba sent them to tell the communities not to vote for the APC during the gubernatorial election.
A chieftain of the party and Special Adviser to Governor Adams Oshiomhole on Political Affairs, Charles Idahosa, who raised the alarm, accused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party of recruiting the suspected fake chiefs and dressed them in Benin traditional robes to canvass votes for the party.

Ekiti PDP asks N’Assembly to reject Buhari’s alleged demand for emergency powers



The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ekiti chapter, has described the plan by President Muhammadu Buhari to seek emergency powers from the National Assembly to handle the nation’s economy as an alleged authoritarian demand that would further breed dictatorship in the country.
The PDP noted that such a demand is an indication that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is incapable of delivering on its promises, and seeking excuses for its poor performance and ways to hold the people of the country by their throats using state powers.
The PDP, in a statement by its State Publicity Secretary, Mr Jackson Adebayo, in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday , said Buhari was also seeking a means of putting on a dictatorial garment in a democratic setting.
