Edo APGA executives, others defect to APC
The Publicity Secretary and Chieftain of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Edo State, Hon (Chief) Pius Okolie, with over 1,000 of his supporters, including executive members and chieftains have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Obaseki advocates vigilance, pledges better healthcare for Edo people
With increasing reports of Lassa fever cases across the country, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 28 Edo State gubernatorial elections, Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, has charged health officials in the state to strengthen epidemiology surveillance and response in order to curtail the spread of the disease while promising to boost healthcare facilities for improved service delivery when elected governor.
Obaseki made the charge when he received a group of young medical students who paid him a courtesy visit in Benin City. In his address to the students, he noted that boosting education and improving healthcare delivery in the state are a critical part of his prosperity agenda for Edo people.

The Olowo of Owo, Oba Folagbade Olateru-Olagbegi, Monday said the community would send a team to the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu, with a mission to appeal to him to accept the candidacy of the former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), as the candidate of the party.
The plan of the community was disclosed by the monarch during a solidarity rally organised in Owo by the youths of the ancient town under the umbrella of Owo Youth Alliance in support of the former NBA president, who emerged as the APC candidate.
Represented by Prince Bejamin Koya Adako, the Olowo, who had earlier commended the youths for their efforts to ensure that Akeredolu eventually wins the November 26 gubernatorial election, said the candidate himself had been reaching out to other aspirants to solicit their cooperation.

The Edo State candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the September 28 governorship election, Godwin Obaseki, on Monday called on voters to consider leadership skills as a major criterion in choosing their next governor.
Obaseki, who stated this during a visit to the Benin Technical College in Egor Local Government Area of the state, explained that in view of their desire for a greater Edo, it was important for the voters to assess the antecedents of all the candidates, including their achievements both in and out of government.
He said, “Leadership is very important; that is the key issue in this election. Who do we give power to? What is his background? What has he done before, especially if he has been in power?
“What are his achievements? We must ask these questions because a leopard does not change its spot. So, it is important (that) this election is not going to be about money but our future.”

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu on Sunday alleged plans by the APC-led government and INEC to re-write results no matter what figures come from the polling units.
He, therefore, said that, “party agents should not be allowed to see how voters vote; there should be safe distance. Illiterate voters should be assisted only by relatives, not by party agents.”
Eid-el-Kabir: IPAC tasks INEC, security agents on neutrality
Ahead of the rescheduled governorship polls, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security operatives to be neutral in their operations.
The chairman of the council, Muhammad Lawal Nalado, made the appeal in an Eid-el-Kabir message to Muslims
He enjoined Nigerians, irrespective of their political, ethnic or religious affiliations, to pray for the success of the present administration.
According to him, IPAC received the news of the postponement with surprise, adding that it was done without proper consultation with the major stakeholders, including the IPAC.
Nalado, who is also the chairman of the Accord Party, pleaded with the political parties involved and other concerned citizens to accept the decision in good faith.
