Ondo guber: I’m on rescue mission – Akeredolu
The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), in the November 26 governorship election in Ondo State, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu has said ,he is on a mission to rescue the state from the shackles of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led-government.
The legal luminary who said the state can no longer afford not to join the mainstream of Nigerian politics , noted that it is time to bring a change into the sunshine state.
Addressing mammoth crowd of supporters in Akure, the state capital during his “welcome back home rally”, Akeredolu promised not to disappoint the people of the state.
Akeredolu who was received by students, market women, pedestrians, road side traders as well as the people of the town, noted that the primary election is over and it is time for full-fledged campaign.
Present at the reception rally were some aspirants, Victor Olabimtan, Tunji Light Ariyomo,
Barrister Tunji Abayomi and supporters of Senator Tayo Alasoadura and Senator Ayo Akinyelure.
Akeredolu later moved to his home town, Owo where he was also received by thousands of his kinsmen.
Meanwhile, 13 out of the 18 youth leaders across the LGAs, alongside the three senatorial districts’ youth leaders and the Deputy State Youth Leader, Mr. Sheed Lateef, of the party yesterday rejected his candidature.
In a communiqué issued and signed by the youths in Akure, they noted that their grouse with Akeredolu was based on the recommendation of the Appeal Committee of the party which ordered re-run of September 3 primary election.
According to them, “We are surprised when we learnt that the National Chairman overruled the majority of the National Working Committee who had voted in support of the recommendations of the Appeal Committee.”
The youth leaders which represent five councils in the Central District, five from the South District and three from the Central District with Mr. Deji Oluwashina, Mr. Soji Ogungbemi and Mr. Bobade Omolade as their respective senatorial youth leaders, called for a new primary election.
The youths lamented that the insistence on Akeredolu’s mandate is a parody of what the party stands for in its fight against corruption.
“That the National Working Committee of the party should as a matter of principle and ethos of our party upholds the recommendations of the Appeal Panel which affirmed that there was corruption in the process of the primary election of 3rd September, 2016.
“That we believe in the anti-corruption crusade of President Muhammadu Buhari and same should be extended to the internal arrangement of our party.
“That our position is not against any individual but against the process. Our position is reinforced by our commitment to the principle of democracy, minority cannot overrule the majority,” they said.
