Tinubu’s allegation confirms plot by APC to rig Edo poll – PDP

Edo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has told the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, that his party can afford to lose Edo state and that heavens will not fall if that happens in the governorship election.
The PDP, in a statement issued Tuesday evening by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Chris Nehikhare, also wished that outgoing governor, Adams Oshiomhole, would live to witness and hand over the reins of power to its governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu on November 12, this year.
The statement reads: “The allegation by the APC national leader, Senator Bola Tinubu that the party’s governorship primary in Ondo State was rigged in favour of a particular candidate, once again brings to fore the desperate complexity of the new ruling party, and its penchant for unfair and undemocratic measures for winning elections.
“This allegation in which the national chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie Oyegun is being accused of complicity, justifies the alarm raised by the PDP that the ruling party has put in place a machinery to rig the September 28 Edo state governorship election.

“It would be recalled that controversy bordering on rigging has always trailed all the primaries conducted by the APC since they came to power at the federal level. The story is the same from Bayelsa to Kogi to Edo and now Ondo.
“It should also be recalled that the APC has also demonstrated this proclivity to rig the general elections it has conducted so far, although it had largely failed where its interest had come against the will and determination of the people as we saw in Bayelsa and Rivers States.
“The PDP in Edo, being in possession of facts about the deployment the APC has made to rig the election in Edo, which is the only state in the South South with an APC government, has consistently alerted the public, including the international community.
“It is on record that the implicated Chief John Odigie Oyegun, APC’s national chairman has, on more than one occasion, said that the APC cannot afford to lose Edo. Similarly, the state governor and APC’s candidate’s godfather, Adams Oshiomhole, has sworn that it is over his dead body that the PDP, which obviously is the favourite, will win the election.
“The PDP wishes to tell Chief Oyegun that APC can afford to lose Edo and heaven will not fall. As for Governor Adams, he will not die. He is expected to be at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium to handover to Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu on November 12, 2016. “APC needs to understand that power to win the election rests with Edo people and is in the hands of God who have resolved that the APC must give way to a more responsible and responsive governor on the platform of the PDP.
“APC and Oshiomhole are hereby put on notice to prepare for a transition peacefully as no amount of intimidation, assault and unholy conspiracy will subdue the determination of PDP members, overthrow the will of Edo People and turn the hands of God.
“The PDP is watching. Edo people are watching. Nigerians are watching. The international community is watching.”
